As expected, former Assemblyman Ruben Ramos (D-33) is gearing up to run for the Ward 4 Council seat in Hoboken, with preliminary operations in place now aimed at a post-Labor Day sprint.

Two sources close to the former councilman/assemblyman said his campaign is a definite go. A Paterson Public School teacher, Ramos is in the streets of the mile-square city harvesting signatures in order to qualify to run against incumbent Councilman Tim Occhipinti.

This is going to be a grudge match, as it was Occhipinti’s entry into the 2013 mayor’s race that scrambled Ramos’ own bid to oust incumbent Mayor Dawn Zimmer. Also in the November race to displace Occhipinti is attorney Dana Wefer, who has already kicked off her own ward campaign.

As an ally of Union City Mayor/Senator Brian P. Stack (D-33), Ramos served in the Assembly from 2008 to 2014. For more on Ramos, go here.
