TRENTON – The Senate Judiciary Committee this morning released Gov. Chris Christie’s nomination for the Rutgers University Board of Governors.
Joseph M. Rigby, an MBA and CPA, will replace Gordon MacInness on the board.
Three Democratic senators had problems with Rigby. Two voted no and one abstained.
“He’s very impressive in terms of his background and commitment to Rutgers but I don’t have enough information,” said dissenting state Senator Ray Lesniak (D-20).
State Senator Bob Smith (D-17) abstained because Rigby is not a resident of New Jersey.
“The problem with an out-of-stater, even a well-qualified out-of-stater, is he doesn’t have skin in the game,” said Smith, who abstained, noting the $300 million of state money on which Rutgers depends.
Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg (D-37) also voted no.
