There’s a big event in New Jersey politics tomorrow.
State Senator Steve Oroho (R-24) (above) and the Sussex County GOP will pick a new chairperson at the Sussex County Technical School cafeteria in Sparta at 7 p.m.
First Vice Chair Jill Space will run the meeting wherein committee members have to choose a successor to retiring Chair Ailish Hambel.
Second Vice Chair Jerry Scanlan of Hopatcong and party staple Donald Ploetner of Sparta are vying for the position, which the winner will hold for a year before facing the committee again a year from now for a full, two-year term.
The wife of Assemblyman Parker Space (R-24) and an NJGOP committeewoman, Jill Space looked hard at running for the chairmanship this year but ultimately decided against pursuing the position. She backs Ploetner for the job, however, she has not ruled out the possibility of running for the seat next year.
