Richard C. “Dick” Leone, who served as treasurer for Governor Brendan Byrne, has died.
Policy wonk Jeff Laurenti posted the news earlier today on his Facebook page.
“Saddened to learn of the death overnight of Richard C. Leone, a public-policy intellectual who masterminded Brendan Byrne’s remarkable landslide elections as governor of New Jersey and led the Treasury at age 31, was appointed by Thomas Kean to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and by Jim Florio as its chairman, headed The Century Foundation for 20 years, and was senior advisor to Fritz Mondale’s presidential campaign in 1984,” Laurenti wrote. “A brilliant man of many moods, he was a wonderful guide to the policy side of political engagement. I am deeply and forever in his debt.”
