With the acquisition of William F. Megna, law firm Genova Burns has established a specialized Insurance Law Practice Group. This group will handle insurance company formation and governance, including captive insurers, risk retention groups, MEWAs and other related strategies.
Megna started his career holding several insurance company in-house counsel positions including: Vice President and Counsel for Home Life Insurance, Associate Counsel and Florida Regional Counsel for USLIFE Corporation and Vice President and General Counsel for USLIFE Realty Corporation of Florida. He was Managing Attorney for Morris Manning & Martin’s Princeton office, and before that a Partner in the firm of Caldwell Megna. He was also a Senior Associate at LeBoeuf, Lamb, Green and McRae.
Megna has for two decades maintained a private practice in the formation and representation of admitted and non-admitted insurance companies, captives, MEWAs, Risk Retention Groups, Taft-Hartley plans, association insurance and benefit programs and other risk-based entities. He also represents managing general underwriters and agents and brokers in licensing and other regulatory matters. Mr. Megna is an authority on the legal regulation of MEWAs and has been consulted in several states with regard to legislation authorizing MEWA arrangements.
Megna attended New York University’s L.L.M. program for Trade Regulation and has achieved both regulatory and legislative successes for his clients. Mr. Megna frequently speaks on insurance matters before business and bar associations, and contributes articles to the New Jersey Law Journal and New Jersey Lawyer magazines on such matters. He is the past Chairman of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Insurance Section and has been listed in New Jersey Super Lawyers for insurance law and New York Areas’ Best Lawyers for government relations law.
