Ocean County Republican Chairman George Gilmore told PolitickerNJ this evening that after a conversation he had with Dan Toth earlier today, the Republican candidate for local office in Brick has decided to give up his council candidacy to focus on defending himself against charges of criminal sexual misconduct with a minor.
“He can’t defend himself against those charges and run at the same time,” said Gilmore.
Toth told Gilmore he’s innocent, the chairman said.
The candidate told the chairman that he would submit a letter to the County Clerk’s Office directing the clerk to remove his name from the ballot.
The Republicans will have until September 10th to find a replacement for Toth, a former councilman.
