Since I first discovered Incense Avignon, a perfume by Comme des Garçons, in 2002, I can’t live without it. The smokiness makes me think of the medieval cathedrals in the South of France. It also reminds me of moving to New York and my first apartment in the Lower East Side. And of working on the Chanel tower in Tokyo for Peter Marino. It may or may not be a coincidence that I highly admire Rei Kawakubo, the designer behind Comme des Garçons. She’s an innovator in cutting edge design.
