On Wednesday, Assembly Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg issued a statement blasting Republican Assemblywomen Caroline Casagrande and Mary Pat Angelini for claims they made about efforts to fight Governor Chris Christie to restore women’s health funding.
Casagrande and Angelini, however, claim that Weinberg only cares “about funding Planned Parenthood” and has ignored other efforts made on their behalf to increase women’s health funding without also funding the controversial organization.
In 2012, Casagrande wrote and Angelini sponsored Budget Resolution #3003. The resolution would have increased women’s and children’s health funding by $7.5 million.
The Angelini and Casagrande campaign has issued the following statement:
“Loretta Weinberg and the Trenton politicians funding our opponents’ campaign only care about funding Planned Parenthood. As women and mothers, Mary Pat and Caroline care about expanding healthcare for women and children. That’s why Caroline wrote and Mary Pat sponsored a budget resolution to secure $6.2 million for qualified health centers that provide mammograms and essential health services for women and children and $1.3 million to cancer education and early detection programs. They have received numerous awards and endorsements from independent health advocate groups like the New Jersey Primary Care Association and Visiting Nurses Association because they tirelessly fight to provide higher quality care and health care access to women and children.”
Angelini and Casagrande will be facing democrats Eric Houghtaling and Joann Downey for the LD11 state assembly seats in November.
