It’s no secret that during fashion week, the trends taking place off the runway have become as important the collections themselves. Between the blogosphere explosion and the advent of Instagram, “street style” is now an industry all to itself, complete with its own arsenal of photographers, celebrities and loyal fans. Each season style stars including Leandra Medine, Aimee Song and Susie Lau set the trends for what women will want to wear on the runway that is real life. Here is our round up:
Post-Labor Day White: Who better to break that age-old adage than the fashion pack? Forget the rules, head-to-toe white is as chic as it gets. It’s irreverent, totally unpractical, and screams, “I have a car waiting for me after the show.” Think long white blazers layered over white button-down shirts, white skinny jeans, and white ankle boots or flats.
Athletic: Alexander Wang set it off with his sporty collection for H&M. This season, show-goers will look like they just snuck in a Soul Cycle class between shows. Think printed leggings, flashy high-tops sneakers and black sports bras that double as crop tops. Now finish it off with a Brooklyn Nets hat and consider yourself on-trend!
Shoulder Porn: Move over crop top, it’s the season of the shoulder. From Rosie Assoulin to Tibi, this season’s shirt is taking it cue way off the shoulder, showcasing women’s most feminine and favorite assets while hiding the rest.
Normcore: Thank you fashion gods for deciding that an ensemble featuring a white tee-shirt, jeans and a pair of sneakers is considered chic. Or in the fashion industry’s case, limited edition New Balance sneakers and a $150 white tee by The Row.
Totally ‘90’s: Start Netflixing episodes of “My So Called Life” because street style is bringing the 90’s back in a big way. Beauty-wise, less is certainly more, from barely tousled hair and minimal makeup down to polish-free nails. Take a nod from Chloe Sevigny, iconic purveyor of all things cool and polish up those Doc Martens. They’ll be the perfect compliment to that and maxi skirt and oversized blazer you’ve been eyeing at Reformation.
Flare Denim: Move over skinny straight legs, but the flare jean is making its comeback this season. Leandra Medine paired her white version with suspenders while out and about on Saturday, while Jennifer Fisher rocked her Frame Le Francois style with a cropped blazer. And don’t forget the Adidas Sneaker: From Stan Smiths to the classic Superstar style, It-girls are pairing everything from cocktail dresses to suiting with these throwback sneaks.
