Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg (D-37) today fired off a note to Trevor Noah, the new host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show.
Noah is scheduled to welcome Gov. Chris Christie to his show tonight on the first week that he takes over as host from Jon Stewart.
Weinberg let Noah know that she is not amused, alluding to when Christie four years ago suggested the media “take a bat” out on her for collecting a taxpayer-funded pension while making $49,000 a year as a legislator.
Her full letter to the TV host is printed below:
Congratulations on your new job as host of the Daily Show. I’ve got to ask, though – why bother having Governor Chris Christie on as your guest tonight?
“As if Chris Christie needed to hop on Comedy Central for a few laughs. His entire record as governor has been a joke on us. It might even be funny if it weren’t hurting New Jersey families so badly. Under Governor Christie, our state has experienced a record breaking nine credit downgrades, pathetic job creation numbers, the highest property taxes in the nation, and thanks to Governor Christie, we aren’t experiencing the economic recovery the rest of the country is and our Transportation Trust Fund is broke! And don’t forget how Christie’s been clowning around with public workers, refusing to fulfill his promise to fund their pensions once they gave up some hard earned benefits.
“I will admit that it’s humorous that he thinks he can become president with his terrible polling numbers, and dismal job approval ratings at home. His candidacy has certainly drawn a few laughs here in New Jersey.
“A final word of advice: be careful if you don’t support the governor tonight. He might suggest our New Jersey press corps “take the bat out” on you.”
