Having lost his bid earlier this year for an Assembly seat in LD20, incumbent Elizabeth School Board member Tony Monteiro is sustaining heavy fire in his bid to win back his board seat and assist Rafael Fajardo in keeping organizational control of the board.
several negative mail pieces are strafing Elizabeth voters in the closing days of the contest. Monteiro is running with the Fajardo-backed team against a slate backed by state senator Ray Lesniak (D-20) and Mayor Christian Bollwage.
Monteiro has another challenge.
“The key to this race is VBMs [vote by mail ballots],” a source told PolitickerNJ. “Under the old rules we would file over 2000 and in this turnout that’s a winner. We’ll see under the new rules. If anyone can pull it off its Oscar Ocasio.”
