Infused with California whimsy and slightly off-kilter sparkle, Rodarte’s designs aren’t necessarily produced to be embraced by the masses. Their penchant for sequins donned in a dark manner with an obvious dose of sarcasm are not pieces that just anyone can pull off.
That hasn’t deterred & Other Stories, the H&M sister brand that has announced plans to roll out a collaboration with Laura and Kate Mulleavy, the sisters behind the Rodarte label. Well, & Other Stories actually refers to its creative partnerships as collabs.
Come spring, this range of clothing, accessories and shoes will be stocked in stores and online. With price tags starting at $29 for tights (hopefully the sparkly ones shown above) and topping off at $325 for a sequin frock, this is an attainable way to master the Rodarte aesthetic, without shelling out the big bucks.
This certainly isn’t the first time & Other Stories has collaborated with a notable partner: previous co-labs have been with designers Rachel Antonoff, Clare Vivier and Vika Gazinskaya, as well as singer Lykke Li and stylist Ada Kokosar. It isn’t Rodarte’s first go at the collaboration rodeo either. In the past, they have teamed up with sneaker brand Superga and joined forces with Opening Ceremony to produce a collaborative collection.
So what else can we expect from the range? Few other details were released, save for the promise of a California-inspired aesthetic. “With Rodarte’s strong co-lab collection we’re adding a new L.A.-infused perspective to our selection and bringing inspiration and ideas to encourage all personal styles, or stories,” explained Samuel Fernström, managing director of & Other Stories.
