Tech is a male-dominated field, and women, but more specifically, women of color, are especially underrepresented in technical positions. But despite this, there are still many succeeding in the tech world. There have always been many white, male faces of tech success, but visual representation of women of color in tech is something we need.
After blogging about the issue and explaining that a Google search of “women of color in technology” turns up very few results, an organization for women and non-binary people of color called WOCinTech Chat set out to change this.
Together with photographer Mike Ngo, the group put together a set of 60 stock images featuring women of color working with technology. The photos are available for free under a Creative Commons license, meaning anyone can copy, distribute, and display the images as long as they’re attributed to WOCinTech Chat.
