‘The Soup’ Emoji Movie Trailer Is Better Than an Actual Emoji Movie

There was a fair amount of skepticism when Sony Pictures announced in July that it was developing an emoji movie. But E’s comic news show The Soup has turned the idea into a comedy gold mine.

In the trailer for the fictional Emoji Movie, which was posted online today in advance of tonight’s episode of The Soup, host Joel McHale plays Smiles Emoji, who’s living an idyllic life with his wife (the flamenco dancer emoji) and two daughters (both women-with-bunny-ears emojis).

Things take a turn for the worse, however, when the poop emoji (voiced by Seinfeld‘s Patrick Warburton) knocks on the door, brandishing a gun and demanding money. Lots of bad poop puns follow, until the toilet emoji finally saves the day.
