The results of last Tuesday’s election resulted in the losses of GOP incumbents Assemblyman Sam Fiocchi (R-1), Assemblywoman Mary Pat Angelini (R-11), Assemblywoman Caroline Casagrande (R-11) and Assemblywoman Donna Simon (R-16).
A source close to the four said it appears virtually a done deal that Casagrande will be back for revenge in 2017.
So too the prospects for a return by Angelini, widely viewed as an unselfish and likable caucus presence.
Stung by the loss, Casagrande does not intend to go lightly and has already donned a 2017 war bonnet.
While the results in LD16 have not formally produced a winner, Democrat Andrew Zwicker of Kingston leads Simon of Hunterdon County by 61 votes as the rivals head into the counting of Middlesex provisional ballots.
If Simon losses this election, as insiders in both parties expect she will, like Casagrande she’s likely to bounce back for payback in 2017 when the gubernatorial contest at the top of the ticket will produce higher turnout and potentially produce a more favorable result.
