George Esquivel has come a long way from selling refashioned thrift shop finds in Orange County. With a CFDA nomination and a stint as the creative director of luggage label Tumi both under his belt, the designer has more than made a name for himself. This holiday season sees the creative teaming with up with American heritage footwear brand Florsheim on a capsule collection of shoes for both men and women.

The project is a bit of a full circle moment for Mr. Esquivel whose pieces have been worn by the likes of Janelle Monáe, Brad Pitt and Emma Stone. “Before I designed footwear I used to buy vintage shoes,” he wrote on his Instagram account of the launch. “My very first purchase was a pair of Florsheim’s. It’s such an honor to be collaborating with the brand that had such a major impact on me!!” The collaboration features both wingtip and captor styles hand made in Southern California by a team of artisans. With variations in typical brown and camel as well as gold, white and green, it’s a pretty wide offering. Prices range from $500 to $1,200.
“Each piece of footwear George Esquivel creates is unique and innovative — rooted in a respect for craftsmanship,” John Florsheim, president and chief operating officer of Weyco Group Incorporated said of the line. “These traits are qualities at the core of our business, humbly started by our great grandfather, Milton Florsheim in 1892.”
