If there’s one night to ditch a drab all-black wardrobe and go for the gold (quite literally) that night is New Year’s Eve. For the last night of the year, it seems that sparkling is the preferred sartorial choice of well, everyone.
We understand if dressing entirely in metallics or donning sequins from head to toe can be daunting, if not scarring. So we’ve rounded up five ways to incorporate some shimmer into your evening, from a glimmering heel to a shimmering (and perfectly highlighted) cheek.
If none of these sparkles work for you, might we suggest at least clutching a coupe of bubbly golden champagne until midnight? It’s the least we could do.
1. Wear a pair of sequined pajamas
Okay, so this Prabal Gurung T-shirt and pant combo aren’t technically sleep gear, but they look so comfortable they might as well be. The loose fitting top and bottom is apropos for many situations, including the dance floor at the Bowery Hotel and the couch in your living room. Simply pair this two-piece with a sleek chignon and a simple pair of black pumps and your sparkle is complete.
2. Just wear some diamonds
Seriously, it doesn’t matter where or how you wear them, just do it. Although, if your diamonds make a statement of their own (à la this Diane Kordas design), the sparkle factor will increase exponentially.
3. Channel your inner twinkle toes
No shoe was more prevalent in 2015 than the barely-there sandal. So close out the year on a subtle platform, in gilded gold, from Saint Laurent.
4. Hold onto something that shines
Sparkle and snakeskin is a brilliant combination, especially if it all comes together on a geometric minaudière. This Jill Haber design is perfect for special occasions, but you’ll probably want to take it out every Friday night of 2016 as well.
5. If all else fails, at least put some glitter on your face
If there’s one night to wear your shimmer on your face, it has to be New Year’s Eve. Dolce & Gabbana has done all the grunt work and put together a perfect holiday face that will allow you to sparkle, but not in a Las Vegas showgirl way. Just scoop up all their recommended products (including plenty of Shimmer Powder) at Saks Fifth Avenue, follow their precise instructions and don’t forget to dab off some of that red lipstick before going in for that kiss at midnight.
