Perth Amboy Mayor Wilda Diaz is jumping headfirst into campaign mode as she pursues her third term. Tonight, a fundraiser with Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto will mark her official announcement that she is running for reelection.
According to an event organizer, about 350 guest are supposed to attend but, other than Prieto, attendees will be mostly local officials and grassroots supporters. Unlike the labor focused event she held in October, today’s event will focus on more local support (though labor contributions have been received and some attendees are expected to be from labor groups). Labor support is expected throughout her campaign.
According to state Senator Joseph Vitale (D-19), he is considering attending Diaz’s event tonight but may not be able to due to scheduling conflicts. Perth Amboy is a town in his district. Earlier this year, Vitale and Diaz had a squabble over who should be the town’s law director. Vitale, at that time, did not support Diaz’s pick of Arlene Quniones Perez and instead wanted Bill Northgrave to take the roll. Diaz’s pick was eventually selected.
Tonight’s event will be a holiday cocktail reception. It will be held at Sebra’s the Armory in Perth Amboy and begin at 6:30 p.m. Entrance is $100 per person and donations will go toward Diaz’s reelection campaign.
