A Middlesex County Democratic source told PolitickerNJ tonight that state Senator Peter Barnes (D-18) of Edison is poised to surrender his senate seat to pursue a superior court judgeship.
The source said Assemblyman Pat Diegnan (D-18) is trying to get his senate spot and Edison Councilman Robert Karabinchek is making a move to to get to the assembly. Last year Karabinchek unsuccessfully ran against Assemblywoman Nancy Pinkin (D-18).
Other names in the mix for an assembly seat: Councilman Bob Diehl, Highland Park Mayor Gayle Mittler, and Councilwoman Sapana Shah.
A judgeship rumor has long gnawed at Barnes.
