Rather than fighting your way through a ticketed open bar in the Meatpacking District, go bold and get away for New Year’s Eve. From December 27 to January 3, the roving artist community HABITAS will be taking over the Nomade Hotel in Tulum to ring in the New Year with a far-flung getaway to the exotic Mexican hotspot. The mostly secretive agenda for guests, some of whom shell out up to $12,000 for two spots on the excursion, is full of of surprises. “It’s very simple,” the event’s co-founder Eduardo Castillo said. “HABITAS is a place of wonderment, and to accomplish this, we surprise our guests at every turn from the moment they arrive to the moment we bid farewell.”

While it has all the usual trappings of luxury accommodations like daily yoga sessions, onsite chefs offering organic bites and beach-side spa services, Habitas also offers daily sunset sessions with new and emerging musical acts. “We strongly believe in exposing new music and artists to our community,” Mr. Castillo added. “We don’t believe in headliners, only artists that push envelopes and meld with every environment they play in. We strive to create incredible environments for said artists to be inspired and play to the best of their capacity, in turn leaving the listener and dancer incredibly inspired.”

Best of all, you won’t be sleeping in a run-of-the-mill hotel room. Instead, guests sleep in tents or ‘casitas’ tucked away under the palm trees and shaded under the canopy of the jungle. The rooms include a king size bed, a private bathroom, premium linens, air conditioning, and, of course the almighty WiFi. Applications to join the community are still being accepted for New Year’s Eve here
