Afternoon Bulletin: Chipotle Closes All Locations and Speeding Driver Injures Cops

After months in the throes of a massive E.coli outbreak, Chipotle has announced that it will close all of its locations for one day on February 8th.

After months in the throes of a massive E.coli outbreak, Chipotle has announced that it will close all of its locations on February 8. The popular food chain will use this closure to conduct a company-wide discussion on food safety. The initial outbreak in Seattle six months ago has now spread to nine states, and has caused a 30 percent dip in sales as well as a federal investigation. (Grub Street)

A speeding driver slammed into two police cars early this morning, hospitalizing four officers. The driver and his two passengers led officers in a chase through Little Italy in the Bronx until stopping on a dead end street near Belmont Avenue and East Fordham Road. The driver then reversed into the two police cars; all three men were arrested. The four hospitalized officers suffered minor neck and back injuries and were taken to Jacobi Hospital. A legally blind man was attacked by a couple in Queens after he got tangled in their dogs’ leashes. The couple, Joseph Cruz and Lisa Rivera, claimed that Qingyou Li was an aggressor; Mr. Cruz punched Mr. Li, knocking off his glasses and sending him to the ground. Mr. Li, who suffers from advanced glaucoma, was later arrested and given a desk-appearance ticket that was eventually dismissed; he is now suing the city, the arresting officers, Mr. Cruz, Ms. Rivera and Ms. Rivera’s mother, who called 911 for unspecified damages. Bushwick’s new dine-in cinema, Syndicated, opens today on Bogart Street. The theater will be modeled after Williamsburg’s Nighthawk Cinema, offering meals, artisanal snacks and a full bar. The 50-seat screening room is equipped with plush leather seats and tables so moviegoers can enjoy a gourmet meal while taking in one of the theater’s curated flicks. (Gothamist)

David Bowie murals have sprung up on the Lower East Side to commemorate the iconic singer’s passing earlier this week. A large mural takes up an entire wall in The Graffiti Room, a ramen shop on Mott Street, featuring a depiction of Bowie’s 1973 “Aladdin Sane” album cover. Another mural, at the northwest entrance to the 2nd Avenue F station, features a heart-clad wall featuring the iconic “Aladdin Sane” face paint and scrawls of “Let’s Dance” and “Rest Well.” (DNAinfo)
