Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-32) this week formally appointed Assemblyman Troy Singleton (D-7) to serve as Chair of the Assembly State and Local Government Committee.
“I’m grateful for the confidence the Speaker has placed in me to fill this role,” said Singleton. “With so many challenges facing both state and local government these days, I’m eager to role up my sleeves and help find solutions to issues such as our mounting pension liability, expanding access to voting, and making sure government has the tools to operate more efficiently.”
Elected to his first full term on November 8, 2011, and sworn in on November 21, 2011 to fill the unexpired term of Jack Conners, Singleton is beginning his fifth full year representing the 7th legislative district in the Assembly. He is a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBC) Local 255 and currently serves as the Assistant to the Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters. He is also the past President of the New Jersey Carpenter Contractor Trust (NJCCT), a network of union carpentry and construction labor. He received his Bachelor of Science in business administration with a specialization in finance from Rowan University.
