In Bloomfield, Probable Cause Found Against Councilman Lopez for Chalet Fight

According to a report by Essex News Daily, a judge recently found probable cause against Bloomfield Councilman Joseph Lopez on three criminal complaints made on him by Bloomfield resident Daniel Chalet following a January altercation after a city council meeting.

Daniel Chalet’s relative, Elias Chalet, is also a Bloomfield councilman. During the January council meeting, Lopez asked for Councilman Chalet’s resignation due to an indictment he is facing on charges that he accepted bribes.

According to the report, Lopez is facing aggravated assault, simple assault and criminal mischief for his involvement in the fight. The judge also found probable cause against Daniel Chalet for harassment.

The charges were sent to the Essex County Prosecutor for consideration on February 21.
