In a hot mic conversation with MSNBC host Chris Matthews, bewildered Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton wondered about Gov. Chris Christie’s motivations for endorsing billionaire real estate tycoon Donald Trump.

“Did he have a debt?” Clinton asked Matthews.

Matthews’s answer was interesting. Arguing that Christie endorsed Trump for a political future, he noted that U.S. Senator Cory Booker “isn’t going anywhere,” hence Christie’s efforts to create political opportunity elsewhere.

Clinton didn’t object, which also intrigues because Booker occupies most short lists of possible Clinton vice prez choices.
