I saw these brawny beauties in photographs of Roberto Peregalli’s garden in Tangier, a place that has provided me with endless inspiration. They make a bold, sculptural statement, especially when paired with smaller flowering plants or even boxwood. Get the look: If your local nursery doesn’t stock bulbs, there are plenty of online sources.

There are also many beautiful volumes on Moroccan gardens. Two of my favorites are “Gardens of Marrakesh,” by Angelica Gray and “Morocco: Courtyards and Gardens,” by Achva Stein.
