
By now, every superhero fan should have seen Captain America: Civil War. And if you haven’t, what are you doing reading this? It has your favorite heroes fighting each other and the best on-screen Spider-Man since… ever! Assuming you have seen it though, you may have thought that Steve Rogers liked Bucky Barnes a little more than he let on. In short:
Beginning late Monday night and continuing all day Tuesday, Marvel fans took over Twitter to demand the comics company come out and say it already: #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend!
Fans who have called for the relationship to be fully explored are now understandably excited to see the trend has taken off.
Because seriously, he’s no longer living in 1942. He and Bucky shouldn’t have to hide it.
It’s not like he’s been hiding it particularly well anyway.
Come on, even his ex knows.
It’s not even as though Bucky’s the only object of Steve’s affections. Go back and watch the movies. Dude gets around.
And rumor has it, he’s already scoping out another prospect.
(Oh, if you don’t think there’s already been Obama/Cap slash fiction, you are too pure and innocent for the internet.)
As you might have guessed, not everyone is on board with this plan.
But try as they might, there’s no stopping this train.
Now, it is true Steve Rogers has had relationships with women. But, if anything, that just means…
So every time you try to bring up Peggy Carter, just remember:
And hey, let’s not pretend we were all OK with the romance subplot in Civil War anyway.
Besides, if you read the comics, Steve has never seemed all that into women.
And I mean never.
And remember, this is all inevitable. Even if Marvel doesn’t officially give Cap a boyfriend, rest assured someone already has.
So come on, Marvel. Your fans are calling on you. It’s time to step up.
