On the last weekend before the May 10 municipal election, trucks emblazoned with the face of mayoral challenger Kerry Coley circled around Orange. Those trucks called Coley a “bad cop” and made claims that he was untrustworthy.
A video is also circulating that blasts Coley for his conduct when he worked as a police officer in Orange. The ad alleges that Coley faced over 30 violations during his time as an officer including excessive force, threatening residents and misuse of department resources. The ad was paid for by American Future Leaders, a PAC that is supporting sitting Mayor Dwayne Warren. Watch the video here.
In the wee hours of Monday morning, Coley’s Orange Home Team fired back. In a press release, the group called out Warren for allegations that he knowingly employing a convicted child molester to work in the Orange Public Library. Dwayne Archibald is the managing director for Savannah Rose Cleaning and the cousin of Willis Edwards, a business administrator in Warren’s administration. The press release from Coley’s team called for Warren’s resignation due to the hiring of Archibald.
“Let us be very clear, we believe that Mayor Warren should resign,” the statement read. “His complete disregard for the safety of Orange’s children; his manipulation of people and process to keep secret, information which he knew would understandably incense and anger Orange parents; his conspiracy to deprive Orange parents and voters of their voice on such a basic issue of children’s safety, by ensuring that the Library violated state statutes guaranteeing public transparency, demonstrates that he doesn’t care about the law or Orange’s children and families.”
Coley is currently a councilman. He is challenging Warren as he pursues reelection. The municipal election will be held on May 10.
