Last month, our reporter sat down with pioneering internet artist Petra Cortright, whose work as been shown at the Venice Biennale and at Frieze London, and Lindsay Howard, whose revolutionary curatorial practice advances digital art in its myriad forms, at the Frieze New York art fair.
The pair—who are friends IRL, too—talked about Ms. Cortright’s collaboration with Stella McCartney (everything she did generally started out “too weird”), how she works (“I don’t work every day”; “I work in sessions”) and her relationship with notorious art dealer Stefan Simchowitz. “Feminist defender of Mr. Simchowitz” might sound a tad far fetched, but hear Ms. Cortright out. She makes a good case that if the devil’s in your field, you want him on your side.
