Sold out in its inaugural season, Summer Evenings returns to The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center with three sublime concerts. Featuring beloved chamber music repertoire, these concerts offer new and longtime listeners the opportunity to refresh, rejuvenate, and reconnect during the summer months. Hear classics by Beethoven, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Schumann, and Dvořák in the transcendent atmosphere of Alice Tully Hall.
“We have always wanted to present chamber music at Lincoln Center during the long summer, to nourish music lovers understandably hungry for the art form,” commented artistic directors David Finckel and Wu Han. “Our choice of composers—the undisputed masters—ensures an audience of the faithful while welcoming new listeners with the very best of our literature. We could not be more thrilled to contribute a much-needed musical component to Lincoln Center’s rich artistic fabric.”
On July 6, audiences will hear two magisterial works—Mozart’s quintet for horn and strings and Brahms’s B-flat sextet—alongside one of Mendelssohn’s most effervescent creations, his string quartet in D major. The Escher Quartet, who recently recorded Mendelssohn’s complete quartets, anchors this program of popular classics.
In the second program on July 10, the magnetic pianist Wu Qian returns to the series to partner with the phenomenal Orion Weiss in Dvořák’s infectious Slavonic Dances, and the concert concludes with Schumann’s beloved piano quartet, its legendary cello solos performed by distinguished guest Jan Vogler.
The third and final concert of the series, on July 13, features beloved works by Mozart and Beethoven for flute. The dazzling Tara Helen O’Connor commands the stage for the first half, and her string player colleagues, joined by the dynamic pianist Jon Kimura Parker, offer Dvořák’s spectacular Piano Quintet to close the series.
Tickets for Summer Evenings start at only $35, and $20 tickets are available for ages 21-39. Following each concert, audiences will be invited to gather in the lobby to mingle with the artists and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine, courtesy of Millbrook Vineyards & Winery.
