As the legislature considers revisiting a funding mechanism for the depleted state Transportation Trust Fund (TTF) veteran Assemblyman Jerry Green (D-22) said he has abandoned the option of a gas tax hike and now favors a straight up millionaire’s tax.
In a phone conversation earlier today with PolitickerNJ, Green said residents are already too encumbered with high taxes in New Jersey. He originally backed the gas tax for sales tax swap agreed to by Gov. Chris Christie and Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-32), which died last week when it went to the senate.
Now Green said he wants to back a millionaire’s tax, period, to pay for the TTF as lawmakers look to reconvene on the subject next week.
