Speaking on condition of anonymity, a political operative not long ago sized up senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker and said the following:

“It’s Olivier versus Scott Baio.”

The (Hudson, obviously) operative was trying to make the case for Menendez as a substantive player in the tradition of Shakespearean actor Laurence Olivier, as opposed to the golden throated Booker’s Baio, who shaped his acting career around TV sitcoms.

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump reportedly secured a public address at the Republican National Convention for the TV personality.

There’s another Jersey connection, which is that Chachi, the character Baio played on Happy Days, was from the Garden State.
