Assemblyman Tim Eustace (D-38) will replace retired Assemblywoman L. Grace Spencer (D-29) as chair of the Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee.

“We think Assemblyman Tim Eustace’s appointment as the new Chair of the Assembly Environment Committee is a great choice,” said Jeff Tittel, director of the New Jersey Sierra Club. “Assemblyman Eustace is an environmental champion who will fight for all of us as Chair. He is the best pick because he is a strong environmental advocate and will be a new dynamic leader. Eustace grew up in Wanaque, cares about clean water and will stand up to the Christie Administration’s rollbacks on clean water and weakening of protections in the Highlands.”

Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-32) tapped Eustace and made the announcement Tuesday.

“The Assemblyman has been a leading advocate in the fight to combat climate change,” Tittel enthused. “We have worked with him to block dirty fuels like oil bomb trains that threaten communities and the environment. Eustace will stand up to Governor Christie to help New Jersey rejoin the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, push for stronger renewable energy goals, and help deal with sea level rise and climate change with resiliency. Assemblyman Eustace not only talks the talk but he also walks the walk by driving a plug-in electric vehicle. We are confident he will be a strong leader as Chair to help move New Jersey forward with a clean renewable energy future.”
