The 2017 Governor’s race took center stage at this morning’s conference meeting of the New Jersey Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) in Maryland, where union members backed a resolution in support of NJFOP President Bob Fox.

The resolution of support came in response to Senate President Steve Sweeney’s (D-Gloucester) letters to law enforcement concerning the leadership of the New Jersey Teachers Association (NJEA) and FOP. Representing 14,000 members and 152 lodges around the state of New Jersey, the cops today voted to stand with Fox in defiance of Sweeney.

A source who was at the conference told PolitickerNJ Observer that the issue dominated the morning session.

Very likely a 2017 candidate for governor, Sweeney’s fight with the public sector unions have caused his Democratic allies within the establishment to more closely study next year’s Democratic Primary. There are continuing concerns about Sweeney’s hostile relations with public sector union, specifically the police and teachers.
