Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli (R-Hillsborough) will launch his Republican bid for Governor next Tuesday, and as he prepares for his launch reacted with little pressing interest in today’s announcement by Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop.
“I need to be laser focused on what it takes to win the support of Republicans in this state, and anything and everything else is interesting reading but is not really important to my task in being the Republican nominee,” the assemblyman from Somerset County told PolitickerNJ.
“If I’m fortunate enough to be the nominee, I will begin to focus on my [Democratic] opponent and why I’d be better for New Jersey,” Ciattarelli added.
The Assemblyman expects to run in the 2017 Republican Primary for Governor in a field that includes Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno and Ocean County businessman Joe Rullo.
Republican sources say Somerset County Freeholdder Mark Caliguire and former Assemblywoman Donna Simon will run in the 16th District next year as the GOP seeks to hold a district where Ciattarelli is regularly the top vote-getter.
