One of New Jersey’s many rumored gubernatorial hopefuls is planning an official kickoff to his campaign at the end of the month. State Senator Ray Lesniak (D-20) will be officially entering the fray, becoming the second candidate to announce after former Ambassador to Germany Phil Murphy.
A source familiar with the campaign’s plans told Observer that Lesniak’s event will be taking place September 28.
Speaking by phone from the South of France, Lesniak neither confirmed nor denied that he would be announcing his bid. He say, however, that he will be making a major announcement in the coming weeks.
“It’s just in the planning stages,” he said. “I’m taking this vacation because it’s the last one I’m going to be able to take until the June primary.”
Lesniak and Murphy will likely be competing against Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-3), Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop and Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D-19) for the Democratic nomination to decide Governor Chris Christie’s successor.
