Sweeney Resets for Minimum Wage Push in Senate Labor

Following Governor Chris Christie's veto of the Democrats' minimum wage bill a week ago, Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-Gloucester) on Labor Day added the bill to Thursday's agenda in the Senate Labor Committee with the intent of creating a constitutional amendment to get the item on the 2017 ballot.

Democrats want voters now to approve a minimum wage hike from what it is now, $8.25, to $10.10 per hour, going up incrementally to $15 per hour by the year 2021. Three years ago, New Jersey residents voted to raise the minimum wage to $8.25.
