Essex County Democratic Chairman Leroy Jones cut his political teeth in his home town of East Orange, which he gauges as a bellwether for the whole county, the most Democratic Party-rich in the state of New Jersey.
As of 6.m., heavily Democratic East Orange had recorded 56% turnout, or 19,000 of a total 34,000 voters.
“Turnout is heavy,” the chairman told PolitickerNJ.
His vice chair, state Senator M. Teresa Ruiz (D-Newark) likewise noted high volume in North Newark, historically a heavily Latino voting bloc.
“Super busy,” said Ruiz.
