As of this morning, Netflix has updated its app and now allows users to download content—just in time for holiday travel.
It’s as simple as could be. After updating the app—for both IOS and Android users—it will show you all of the content that’s available for download. It seems to work across multiple users on an account. For example, while downloading an episode of Orange is the New Black, I was curious to see which of my eight-year-old daughter’s favorite shows were available. Seems like most of them are—including PBS shows and Netflix (NFLX) series. While I was downloading one of her favorites, a bar at the bottom of the screen kept track of my other downloads in progress. This is life-altering for those traveling this season—and especially those of us who don’t have unlimited data plans, or might be driving through data blackout zones.
Disney content, and all of it’s related media (Marvel, Star Wars, ABC, etc.), does not seem to be included in this deal—but all Netflix original series and a host of other shows are.
There’s no word yet on how long you can store programs on your device, and so far the only limitation seems to be how much memory you have. Here’s a small sampling of what’s available currently for downloading. There is something for everyone to keep the peace while traveling—whether it’s to grandmas house four states away or just the subway to work.
