While it’s not technically a retreat, you can’t go wrong by venturing to a spa in Spain with “wellness” in its name. The hotel is devoid of gimmicks, and the wellness aspect is seen in a full gym and a Turkish bath. If that’s not enough fitness for you, there’s also bicycle rentals, a sauna and spa. Alternately, if you need a break from working out, try one of the nearby wine tours. Since there’s no schedule, you can book as early as January to escape winter.

Williamsburg’s low-key yoga studio SYNCSTUDIO is venturing to Colombia on March 18. Their classes will take place at Gitana del Mar, a secluded beach worthy of Bachelor in Paradise, only without all the alcohol and dramaIf yoga doesn’t sound like enough of a workout, prepare for circuit classes, too. After all, boot camp must be better on the beach. There are two weeks of options, and almost everything is included, from the room to meals, day trips and spa treatments.

Cooking and Nature | Emotional Hotel.

Cooking and Nature | Emotional Hotel has an “honesty bar.” Tablet

Any hotel with an “honesty bar” deserves a special place on a wellness retreat roundup. This modern spot in Portugal focuses on nature more than working out. And cooking, of course (it is in the title, after all). There are limestone hills, grottos (hopefully nothing like the Playboy mansion) and underground caves. But the most wellness-focused aspect has to be the rooms, which are each inspired by an emotion, ranging from passion to adventure. The honesty bar offers indigenous botanicals, along with customary cocktails. There’s no need to fully detox on this retreat.

Digital Detox

Join Folk Rebellion for a digital detox if you’ve been looking for a reason to ditch your phone in 2017. After all, being attached to terrifying news alerts and sad Twitter announcements isn’t exactly a joyous way to bring in the new year. Their detox isn’t a tropical escape, as it takes place 200 miles from the Arctic Circle in Northern Canada. While you might not spot Drake, and you certainly won’t be able to capture the experience on Instagram, the chance to start a new year without being surgically attached to your cellphone is quite tempting.

Perhaps Idaho wasn’t on your list of must-see destinations for the last year. But this spa, located on the glacial waters of Payette Lake with a nearby forest, might just change your mind. With indoor and outdoor saltwater immersion pools, you won’t even notice the frigid weather…especially with natural hot springs. And to add to the wellness extravaganza, there’s a holistic and organic skincare line.
