State Senator Cardinale Readying 2017 Re-election Campaign

District 39 has long been held by Republicans.

Despite speculation that state Senator Gerald Cardinale may step aside in 2017 and give Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi the possibility to ascend into higher office, the legislator says he is not going anywhere any time soon.

According to Cardinale (R-39), he is already fully committed to running next year and is launching his campaign with a fundraiser at the Bergen County Republican Organization headquarters on Friday.

“I have a nominating petition with probably enough signatures right now. I am running. My first fundraiser is Friday. We will probably have 350 people,” Cardinale said.

The 82-year-old state senator has served in the state senate since 1982. He is also a former member of the New Jersey Assembly and a former Mayor of Demarest.

In 2017, both the senate and the assembly will be up for election in New Jersey. District 39 has long been held by Republicans.
