Guerrilla Girls interview – “Discrimi-NATION: Guerrilla Girls on Bias, Money and Art”

The Guerrilla Girls have been pointing out art world inequities for more than 35 years.

A black-and-white Guerrilla Girls poster features bold, capitalized text reading, "WHEN RACISM & SEXISM ARE NO LONGER FASHIONABLE, WHAT WILL YOUR ART COLLECTION BE WORTH?" Below, smaller text critiques the high prices paid for works by white male artists while suggesting that for the cost of a single Jasper Johns painting, collectors could instead acquire pieces from an extensive list of women and artists of color, whose names are displayed in columns. The poster concludes with "A PUBLIC SERVICE MESSAGE FROM GUERRILLA GIRLS, CONSCIENCE OF THE ART WORLD."
