Exhibition review ‘Alice Coltrane, Monument Eternal’ at the Hammer Museum

In the exhibition, nineteen artists respond to Coltrane’s legacy with works that echo her spiritual and sonic experimentation.

A contemporary art gallery space with light wood floors and white walls displays abstract paintings on the left wall, a large black-and-white photographic mural of a man and woman at a piano in the center, sculptures on the floor including one made of broken wooden slats, a set of drum equipment in the back left corner, and several minimalist gray wall pieces and a small portrait on the right wall.

“Alice Coltrane: Monument Eternal” is on view at the Hammer Museum through May 4, 2025.
