Robert Gottlieb

Robert Gottlieb is the Observer’s dance critic. As head of Alfred A. Knopf he edited and published books by Mikhail Baryshnikov, Margot Fonteyn and Paul Taylor, among others. His own books include a biography of George Balanchine and the anthology Reading Dance. From 1987 to 1992 he was the editor of The New Yorker. For many years he was a director of New York City Ballet and is currently a director of Miami City Ballet.
