Headshot of Stephen Reily, founding director of Remuseum

Stephen Reily

Stephen Reily is the Founding Director of Remuseum, an independent research project housed at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art that seeks to promote innovation among art museums across the United States. Reily served as Director of the Speed Art Museum in Louisville, Kentucky from 2017 to 2021, revitalizing the institution with expanded access for all, a commitment to underrepresented artists and exhibitions, and significant growth in revenue. During his tenure, the Speed organized the exhibition Promise, Witness, Remembrance, which addressed the killing of Breonna Taylor and protests in Louisville during 2020-2021 and was nationally recognized as a model of agility and innovation in responding to community needs. Reily later co-authored a book documenting the exhibition’s planning and impact.
