Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams issued state of emergency declarations in response to the rising Monkeypox case numbers, making New York the first state to do so. At 6 pm today (August 4), 23,000 doses will become available. 9,000 additional doses will be distributed through community organizations, health care providers and to close contacts of people who have tested positive for monkeypox. In total, New York State will receive 110,000 additional doses of the monkeypox vaccine from the federal government.

In order to get an appointment, the NYS health department has a new website where residents who meet requirements can easily book an appointment. Similar to early covid vaccine appointments, slots fill up quickly, but those seeking a vaccine are encouraged to check for availability via cancelations.

The requirements for a vaccine are as follows:
– You must be a gay, bisexual or other man who has sex with men and/or are transgender, gender non conforming, or gender non-binary
– Age 18 or older, and;
– Have had multiple or anonymous sex partners in the last 14 days.

If you have had monkeypox you are currently not eligible to be vaccinated.

The vaccine appointment scheduler says it serves the following locations:
Bronx: Bronx High School of Science Monkeypox Vaccine Site, Health + Hospitals Lincoln Monkeypox Vaccine Site
Brooklyn: Science Skills Center High School Monkeypox Vaccine Site
Manhattan: AP Central Harlem Monkeypox Vaccine Clinic, AP Chelsea Monkeypox Vaccine Clinic
Queens: AP Corona Monkeypox Vaccine Clinic, Thomas J. McCann Woodside Monkeypox Vaccine Site
