Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol was an American artist born in 1928. He is best known for his contributions to the pop art movement of the 1960s, which celebrated elements of popular culture such as advertising, consumer goods, and celebrities. Warhol's art is characterized by his use of bright colors, repetition, and bold compositions, which often featured images of Marilyn Monroe, Campbell's Soup cans, and Coca-Cola bottles. His painting "Shot Sage Blue Marilyn" (1964) became the most expensive piece of artwork by an American artist ever sold at auction, fetching $195 million in 2022. He was also a filmmaker, music producer, and writer, and his studio, The Factory, became a hub for creative experimentation and collaboration. Warhol died in 1987 at the age of 58, but his influence on contemporary art and culture continues to be felt today. Read more about Arts.
