Adriano Espaillat, born on September 27, 1954, in Santiago, Dominican Republic, is an American politician who has served as the U.S. Representative for New York's 13th congressional district since 2017. He is the first formerly undocumented immigrant to ever serve in Congress. Before his tenure in the House of Representatives, Espaillat served in the New York State Assembly from 1997 to 2010 and the New York State Senate from 2011 to 2016. He is a member of the Democratic Party and has been a strong advocate for immigrant rights, affordable housing, and economic development. His district includes parts of Harlem, East Harlem, and the Bronx.
