Bill Traylor
Bill Traylor (1853–1949), born into slavery in Benton, Alabama, was a self-taught artist who began drawing and painting in his later years, producing a remarkable body of work that depicted scenes of rural life and personal memories. His simple yet powerful drawings are celebrated for their expressive quality and unique perspective. Traylor's art is included in collections at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the High Museum of Art in Atlanta.
