Christina Quarles is an American contemporary artist known for her dynamic and abstract figurative paintings that explore themes of identity, sexuality and the human experience. Born in 1985 in Chicago, Illinois, Quarles has gained recognition for her work that often depicts intertwined, ambiguous human forms rendered in vibrant colors and complex compositions. Her paintings reflect her personal experiences as a queer, biracial woman, challenging conventional representations of the body and inviting viewers to reconsider notions of race, gender, and intimacy. Quarles received her MFA from Yale University School of Art in 2016 and has since exhibited her work in numerous prestigious galleries and institutions worldwide.
