Claes Oldenburg
Claes Oldenburg, born on January 28, 1929, in Stockholm, Sweden, was a celebrated American sculptor known for his large-scale public art installations and soft sculptures. He moved to the United States as a child and studied at Yale University and the Art Institute of Chicago. Oldenburg's early career was marked by his involvement in the Pop Art movement, creating whimsical, oversized replicas of everyday objects, such as "Clothespin" in Philadelphia and "Spoonbridge and Cherry" in Minneapolis. His work often involved collaboration with his wife, Coosje van Bruggen. Oldenburg's playful yet thought-provoking sculptures are housed in major collections worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
